ASU Mid-South baseball gets 2025 season underway with win

“Overall, I think we played pretty well today. We pitched well for all but a couple of innings. We made the routine plays defensively for the most part. Offensively, we were pretty good. We just need to tighten up the small things. When we do that, we will have a chance to be good.”

That was ASU Mid-South baseball’s head coach Jason Middleton at the end of the double header that opened the Greyhounds’ 2025 season..

Game 1: Greyhounds 16, BMCU 2

Parker Andel collected three hits in four at bats, as the Greyhounds defeated BMCU Developmental 16-2 on Tuesday. Andel doubled in the _fth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

ASU Mid-South scored 11 runs in the _fth inning on the way to victory. Matthew Dutton singled, scoring two runs, Brayden McKnight singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Eli Dale was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Ethan Hirons singled, scoring two runs, Andel doubled, scoring two runs, Dutton singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

A ground out by McKnight put Mid-South on the board in the top of the second.

BMCU Developmental scored on a passed ball, which helped BMCU Developmental tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.

ASU Mid-South captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the fourth after McKnight walked, Jonah Patten walked, and Kaleb Tejada singled to the left side of the in_eld, each scoring one run.

Ethan Sanders earned the win for the Greyhounds. The reliever gave up two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Tanner Allen took the loss for BMCU Developmental. The hurler went three innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two and walking one. Layne Rivers started on the mound for ASU Mid-South. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Max Bayne, Darrian Yarborough, Ashton Smith, and Emile Pace each threw scoreless innings for Mid-South in relief.

Arkansas State University Mid-South accumulated 17 hits in the game. Dutton and McKnight were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Greyhounds. Tejada led Mid-South with four hits in six at bats. Hirons and Andel each collected multiple hits for ASU Mid-South. McKnight stole two bases. Arkansas State University Mid-South turned one double play in the game.

Gehrig Shinall and Jacob Mobley each collected two hits for BMCU Developmental. BMCU Developmental had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Silas Mckinney and Allen led the team with two walks each. Mobley stole two bases. BMCU Developmental stole _ve bases in the game. BMCU Developmental turned one double play in the game.

Game 2: BMCU 6, Greyhounds 5

A walk-off left ASU Mid-South on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to BMCU Developmental on Tuesday. BMCU Developmental were down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Suede Shows singled, scoring two runs.

The Greyhounds lost despite out-hitting BMCU Developmental eight to four. Ethan Hirons led ASU Mid-South with two hits.

ASU Mid-South opened the scoring in the _rst after Kaleb Tejada singled, scoring one run.

Arkansas State University Mid-South added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Cohen Jorgensen singled to right _eld, and Hirons doubled, each scoring one run.

BMCU Developmental tied the game up in the bottom of the _fth thanks to two singles. BMCU Developmental tied the game at four on a single by Gehrig Shinall.

The Greyhounds took the lead in the top of the seventh. Drew Busby singled, scoring one run, to give Mid-South the lead, 5-4.

Shinall earned the win for BMCU Developmental. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and one run over one inning, striking out two and walking one. Kayden Perrilloux took the loss for Arkansas State University Mid-South. The pitcher went two innings, giving up two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one. Tejada began the game for ASU Mid-South. The starter surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Jake Thomas led things off on the hill for BMCU Developmental. The starter allowed _ve hits and three runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.

Tejada went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Hirons and Kaden Whitlock each stole multiple bases for ASU Mid-South. Mid-South ran wild on the base paths, piling up six stolen bases for the game. Arkansas State University Mid-South were sure-handed in the _eld and didn’t commit a single error. Darrian Yarborough had the most chances in the _eld with eight.

Jack Whittington went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Shinall, Whittington, Jacob Mobley, and Shows each collected one hit for BMCU Developmental. BMCU Developmental stole three bases in the game. BMCU Developmental turned one double play in the game.

Up Next

Next on the schedule will be a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 15, at home versus Northland Community & Technical College. Game One is set for 1 p.m., at Tilden Rodgers Park in West Memphis.
