Don’t put those coats away just yet! Crittenden County residents hoping for a break from winter’s grip should prepare for yet another round of cold and wet weather in the coming days. Forecasters warn that multiple waves of rainfall will move through the area this week, bringing the potential for lowland and river flooding, particularly for communities south of Interstate 40. The second round of rain is expected to arrive on Wednesday, Feb. 12, soaking the region once again. The heaviest rainfall will likely be concentrated over North Mississippi, where already saturated ground could lead to flooding concerns.

As the week progresses, the area will brace for yet another system. On Saturday, February 15, another significant round of rain is expected to push through, and forecasters are closely watching for the potential of severe weather. The heaviest rainfall will once again target North Mississippi, further compounding flood risks in an area that has already seen excessive precipitation in recent weeks.

Rresidents should also be mindful of plummeting temperatures. Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to dip into the mid to low 20s, creating the possibility of icy conditions on roadways. Any lingering moisture on streets, bridges and overpasses could turn into hazardous patches of ice, making travel dangerous.

Adding to the wintry mix, meteorologists say there is even a chance of snow flurries by next Wednesday. While no significant accumulation is expected at this time, even a light dusting could cause slick conditions, especially in the early morning and late evening hurs when temperatures are at their lowest.
