It was a tightly contested football game in the first half.

But after the teams came back out of the locker rooms for the second half, it was all El Dorado, as the Wildcats fans went home in high spirits last Friday as as they saw their football team rally big time to take a big 6A East win over the visiting West Memphis Blue Devils, 63-28.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the early going, with West Memphis and El Dorado trading touchdowns in the first quarter to make it 7-7. The Blue Devil offense continued its good work in the second quarter with three more touchdowns. El Dorado also had a pair of scores in the second quarter, making it 2821 in favor of West Memphis at halftime.

But in the third quarter, the El Dorado offense took over, scoring three touchdowns in rapid succession to take a 42-21 lead. The Blue Devil defense had no answer for the Wildcat scoring machine and while the West Memphis offense sputtered in the second half, El Dorado poured it on, tacking on three more touchdowns to secure the win in a convincing 63-28 final score.

The loss puts the Blue Devils at a 1-7 record (1-4 in 6A East play) for the 2024 season. The tough conference schedule won’t get any easier this Friday night, when they travel to Benton for a 6A East battle on Nov. 1. West Memphis will play a Panthers team coming off a 42-0 confeence win over Little Rock Catholic. The Panthers record now stands at 7-1. Game time in Little Rock is 7 p.m.

The West Memphis Blue Devils were able to hang with El Dorado in the first half, leading 28-21 at halftime, but from there it was all Wildcats.
