Your special day

Time in the Word
you have a special day?
No, not your birthday. I am referring to your own very special day for whatever you want.
There are over 2,000 special days for a given year, more if you include the United Nations special days.
Here is a very abbreviated list of special days in October: National Hair Day, National Black Dog Day, National BOOK IT Day, National Lace Day, National Homemade Cookies Day, Model T Day, Fire Pup Day, CD Player Day, Less than Perfect Day, International Coffee Day, International Day of Older Persons, International Music Day, International Raccoon Appreciation Day, World Sake Day, World Vegetarian Day, National Produce Misting Day, National Custodial Worker’s Day, National Fried Scallops Day, National Name Your Car Day, Guardian Angel Day, International Day of Non Violence, World Day for Farmed Animals, World No Alcohol Day, Audiophile Day, National Boyfriend Day, National Techies Day, National Butterfly and Hummingbird Day, National Family TV Show Day, National Caramel Custard Day, National Virus Appreciation Day, Look at the Leaves Day, Mean Girl’s Appreciation Day, National Golf Lover’s Day, National Taco Day, National Vodka Day, National Cinnamon Roll Day, Improve Your Office Day, National Ships in Bottles Day, Ten-Four Day, World Animal Day, International Toot Your Flute Day – and all of these are just the first four days of October!
There are many, many, many, many, many (added emphasis) more! Many of them I do not know what it means, who celebrates these days and what exactly it is to celebrate.
For example, National Self-Love Day is 13 February. One website suggested these ideas for me to express my self-love (these are not my ideas) by saying or doing the following: “I love who I am; I love every part of myself; I deserve a loving and peaceful life; I am in control of my life; I love myself; I am powerful; I am proud of myself; I am learning to support my best self; I am blessed, loved, and valued; I am worthy of good things.”
I have a problem with every one of these ideas. These ideas are antithetical to who I am, I have lived my life to benefit others. But it could be I am just too old for this day.
I like myself (for the most part) but I would not go as far as to say that I need to take a Self-Love Day.
What would I do? Seems like a self-serving, selfish, and pretentious day but I may be missing something about this day. Will the government pay me for the day off?
There is National Tax Freedom Day. Currently, the national tax Freedom Day is 18 April but I am believing it will be 19 April next year, 20 April the year after and 21 April the next … get the point?
Simply stated, the average American works 108 days to pay all of the taxes we are held-up, shaken down or simply stolen from us.
I think we should move National Love Myself Day to the day after the National Tax-Free Day.
My favorite day (just a little sarcasm and rolling of my eyes) is 14 July.
This day is actually the official National Leave Me Alone So I Can Just Stare at My Phone in Peace Day!
Officially this national day started on 14 July 2016. The funny thing about this one is that my cell phone publishes my screen time, be it news, radio, email, texts, etc., every Sunday morning (usually as I am sitting in church). I use this information to reduce my time and use of my cell phone for the coming week.
It seems, at least according to my cell phone usage reporting, that I am not very consistent. Still, I am trying to reduce my time on the phone but I need help – I do not have social media so stop texting me political ads, should I delete my newspaper icons? If only unknown numbers would stop calling me!
So … do you have a national day dedicated just to you? If not, text your suggestion to The White House at www.whitehouse. gov – it actually asks us to share our thoughts with the President. Be nice, kind, respectful, (make no threats or promises) and who knows you may get your special national day for whatever!
