Off-duty West Memphis police officer in crash
Wreck with big rig shuts down I-55 lanes coming into Memphis

A crash involving a West Memphis police officer snarled traffic Wednesday morning on Interstate 55, officials said. West Memphis Police said the officer was in his personal car when he rear-ended a semitruck on I-55. He was off duty and on his way home at the time of the crash, police confirmed.
Police also said the officer was 'alert and talking.'
Officials said he was being transferred to Regional One Health in Memphis.
West Memphis Police issued the following statement in the officer-involved crash: 'This morning, an off-duty West Memphis Police Department officer was involved in a motor vehicle accident on I55 in his personal vehicle.
Emergency responders were immediately on the scene, and the officer was transported to Regional One Health for non life threatening injuries. We are thankful to report that the officer is in stable condition and expected to recover.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Arkansas State Police, and we will continue to cooperate fully. Our thoughts are with the officer and their family, and we are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
At this time, no further details are available, but we will provide updates as appropriate.'
A spokesperson with the City of West Memphis said the offduty officer was taken to Regional One Hospital in Memphis.
