As storms and non-stop rain ravaged the region during the weekend throughout Crittenden County leaving behind more than puddles, forcing drivers to navigate waterlogged streets and reghters to battle a blaze sparked by what ofcials believe may have been a lightning strike.

The Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Sunset caught re during the storm, and early indications from re ofcials point to a lightning strike as the likely cause. The church, which was set to mark its 160th anniversary later this year, burned for hours as reghters faced challenges with water pressure and access to the _ames hidden between ceilings inside the building.

Though damage assessments are still underway at the church, Bishop Taylor said he may have to conduct services virtually for the time being. Despite the loss, he remained steady in his resolve.

No injuries were reported from the re.

As the storm blew on, out of control, Marion firefighters were called in to help battle the blaze at a Sunset Church.
