Where are the Democrats?
Hello everyone. I have a question. What does the future hold for the Social Security of_ce here in West Memphis? I heard that Elon Musk has some ideas for it, saying that “Social Security is a ponzi-scheme …” God, I sure hope these next few years go by fast, because when Trump’s term ends, we’ll be lucky if we even have a piece of a country left. What in the world is wrong with those people in Washington DC? [Editor’s Note: A lot of concern about Social Security these days … But, let’s not pretend like these attacks are something new. There have been those in the government who have been looking for a way to dismantle Social Security for decades. There are those who would rather that money be given back to the individual to invest themselves (which is just, if I’m being honest, a terrible idea), or to come up with a viable, more sustainable alternative… again, it’s been decades and so far, no one has presented such an alternative. Elon Musk, in a nutshell, is just rattling off whatever ideas pop into his head. You can’t just wave a magic wand (or an executive order pen) and make Social Security go away. So, don’t panic about that. But yes, the Trump administration is making some moves that could cause longterm damage to our country – or not. I honestly can’t say. As to the last point you raise, as far as “what is wrong with those people in Washington DC” you ask? A lot … but mostly, it comes down to power and money. They have it, they don’t want to share it, and they will do their best to hod on to it. There are a lot of complicated issues, but that part is pretty simple …] —–— The Trump administration has threatened to shut down the Social Security Administration (SSA) over a court ruling that blocks Elon Musk’s Department of Government Ef_ciency (DOGE) from accessing the personal data of millions of Americans. Where’s the Tea Party on this? “Don’t Tread on Me?” These teabags pushed this in 2010 about government intrusion, but since Musk/ Trump are prying into their personal data they are MUTE! President Donald Trump ’s interim Social Security chief, Lee Dudek – who has been working closely with DOGE – warned that the SSA could be forced to cease operations if Musk’s team continues to be denied access to the information. “Really, I want to turn it off and let the courts _gure out how they want to run a federal agency,” he added. Nice! Shut down Social Security if they don’t get their way. [Editor’s Note: Again with the Social Security … I think it would be political suicide to shut down the Social Security Administration, and I think Team Trump knows that, so I would not expect that to happen. Here’s the irony, at least as I see it – many, many people are beginning to see that after they voted for Trump, they are somehow surprised that his policies are directly affecting them, including case in which a man who supported Trump saw his wife arrested by ICE, educators who are seeing the Department of Education dismantled, and yes, older Americans whose only means of living (Social Security) is being threatened. It is strange that the party of limited government interference is certainly interfering with the lives of millions of Americans] —–—
