I’m a Batman man…

The anniversary of one of the most important events in history is almost here… OK, “most important” might be overplaying it a litle… maybe…
You see, from time to time, something in the “Today in History” section catches my eye. I’m a history buff anyway, so I really get into marking historical events and their anniversaries. Now, normally it’s something like the Moon Landing or the end of World War II, but this time an item even older than those two events is on the horizon. And while not quite as big a deal as WWII or “one giant leap from mankind,” this Sunday’s important anniversary definitely had an impact on the world… in int’s own way.
You see, on March 30, 1939, Detective Comics #27 was released. And if you don’t already know what that means, or

can’t figure out what that means from the title of this column, well, I’ll tell you. Exactly 86 years ago today, the world was introduced to none other than the Darknight Detective himself, the one and only Batman.
Now, Batman was by no means the first super-hero. In fact, he’s not really even a “super” hero, as he has no powers like Superman or Captain America. He’s just a man who has turned to fighting crime in a bat suit as a way of seeking justice for his murdered parents.
He’s part Zorro, part Lone Ranger, part Robin Hood… and all awesome. Batman was the first thing I can remember being into as a kid, even before Star Wars. And like Star Wars, I’ve never not been into Batman.
In comic book, cartoon, live action or video game form, Batman is my favorite. Why?
Because, like I mentioned, he doesn’t have any powers.
Theoretically, you or I could be Batman (although being a billionaire probably helps).
And even after all this time, people still love Batmanthemed merchandise.
So, celebrate Batman’s birthday and maybe watch a movie with the caped crusader. And to be honest, if you’re going to watch one, I would actually like to recommend the “Lego Batman” movie, with its awesome mix of family-friendly adventure and witty humor.
Holy 86th Birthday, Batman!
