A woman is in critical condition after jumping off the I-40 bridge into the Mississippi River late Wednesday morning last, according to law enforcement officials, but is miraculously expected to survive.

bridge before making the jump just before 11:30 a.m. Emergency responders, including the Memphis Police Department’s Harbor Patrol, quickly located her in the water and transported her to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say she will undergo a psychological evaluation.
There was initial concern over a child’s whereabouts, but of_cials later con_rmed that the child was safe and with their father at another location. A family member clari_ed that the child had not been on the bridge during the incident.
The case is curently being handled by the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Of_ce and the Memphis Police Department.
