Jefferson recognized as a School Counselor of the Year
7th Grade Academy counselor recognized by state association

Jessica Jefferson, school counselor at Marion 7th Grade Academy, has been named a Northeast Region School Counselor of the Year by the Arkansas School Counselor Association.
The Northeast Region consists of 12 counties in northeast Arkansas. Jefferson was recognized as the mid-level School Counselor of the Year for the region. The elementary award went to Cynthia Oaks of Pocahontas, and the high school award went to Breta Dean of Greene County Tech.
“Receiving this recognition is truly an honor that _lls me with a deep sense of gratitude and pride,” Jefferson said. “It’s rewarding to know that my efforts to support and guide students have been acknowledged. This recognition not only reects my dedication but also highlights the hard work of my colleagues and the impactful relationships we build within the school.”
The School Counselor of the Year recognition follows a rigorous process that begins with nominations. Jefferson received seven nominations from her colleagues across the region. Once nominated, each counselor must meet the requirements of being a member of ArSCA, submit a resume, and give a description of their school counseling program or of one of their initiatives that directly impacts students and their school. A committee then votes to select the honorees.
With this recognition, Jefferson will now be considered for the statewide Arkansas School Counselor of theYear, which will be announced later this school year.
“With this honor, I feel a renewed motivation to continue advocating for the mental health and well-being of students,” Jefferson said. “It’s a reminder of the importance of our role in shaping young lives and helping them navigate their challenges. At the same time, it’s a responsibility to uphold the standards that come with this title and inspire others in the _eld. Overall, it’s a wonderful privilege to be recognized for doing what I love.”
