The West Memphis School District has appointed Eric Foister as its new superintendent. The announcement was made Thursday night, marking a new chapter for the district following the death of former superintendent Dr. Terrence Brown in May.

Foister, who has served as assistant superintendent of the Wynne School District since 2021, brings with him 30 years of experience in education. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ball State University, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Oakland City University, and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University. Throughout his career, he has earned several accolades, including Teacher of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Coach of the Year awards.

Before his leadership role in Wynne, Foister began his career as a biology teacher and basketball coach in Florida. He later moved to Indiana, where he continued teaching biology and chemistry while coaching basketball. In 2009, he transitioned into administration, serving in various leadership roles, including Assistant Principal and Principal in Clarksville, Tennessee. During his tenure there, the district was recognized as one of the highest-performing in the state.

Foister’s time in the Wynne School District was marked by his leadership through challenging times, notably guiding the community through recovery efforts following the tornado last year.

Dr. Kimberly Wolfe, President of the West Memphis School District Board, expressed optimism about Foister’s leadership. “I look forward to working with Mr. Foister as the Board of Directors remains focused on the _ve priority areas outlined in the District’s community-informed strategic plan, which was spearheaded by our previous superintendent, Dr. Terrence A. Brown,” Wolfe said. “Mr. Foister inherits invaluable support from Interim Superintendent Mr. Willie Harris, who has provided excellent leadership during a critical time.”

Foister succeeds Willie Harris, who has been serving as interim superintendent since Brown’s passing.
