West Memphis is set to get its very own Starbucks, according to an announcement made by city of_cials on Monday. The popular coffee chain will open a new store at 1521 N. Missouri St., marking a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing economic development efforts.
“This is a big win for our city and is a great example of what we’re trying to accomplish with our economic development efforts,” said Mayor Marco Mc-Clendon. “When a major brand like Starbucks chooses to invest here, it speaks volumes about the growth and opportunity we’re creating for the people of West Memphis. Our city is growing, and we’re excited about what’s coming next. Stay tuned – there’s a lot more to look forward to!”
“This isn’t just about coffee – it’s about new jobs and continuing to make West Memphis a place where businesses want to

invest,” said Nick Coulter, West Memphis Marketing and Business Development Director. “We’re going to keep working hard to bring more businesses and jobs to our community.”
While no specific opening date was provided, the announcement has already generated excitement in the community. However, some skeptics online have pointed to neighboring Marion, where a Starbucks location closed after underperforming. Those critics argue that West Memphis could face a similar outcome.
Still others suggest that the failure of the Marion Starbucks was likely due to its poor location, coupled with Starbucks’ broader restructuring efforts during the 2008–2009 financial crisis. At the time, the company closed nearly 1,000 underperforming stores nationwide.
