The Marion High School Class of 2025 will hold its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 17, in a plan approved last week by the Marion School Board.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Southern Bancorp Stadium.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to 7 p.m. the same day, with preference to remaining at the football stadium location. However, if inclement weather persists, the ceremony willbe moved indoors to Fidelity Bank Arena. A decision on the location of the 7 p.m. ceremony will be announced by 5 p.m.
The move to Saturday, May 17, which is a week before Memorial Day, reflects is a change from the district’s previous practice, which was to hold an evening ceremony on the Thursday before Memorial Day (with contingency ceremonies set for Friday and Saturday). According to Dr.
Glen Fenter, Marion superintendent, the new plan will better align with families’ travel schedules and ensure the ceremony happens on a specific day.
“We know high school graduation is an incredibly meaningful time for our students and their families,” Fenter said. “We are exceptionally proud of our students, and we always look forward to celebrating their accomplishments. We also know that our football stadium offers us the best venue for a high-quality ceremony, where all our students’ families and friends can attend. But if Mother Nature does not cooperate, and we do have to move indoors, this plan gives us a way to do so in a safe and orderly fashion.”
