City holds 9/11 memorial on 23rd anniversary of 2001 terrorist attacks

On Wednesday across the country, many took time out of their day to remember the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks the killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, including four people from Arkansas.
Among the communities taking part in the day of remembrance was the City of West Memphis. Wednesday morning, a crowd gathered outside city hall for a “Honor and Remember” ceremony featuring local emergency responders and dignitaries.
“A special ‘Thank you’ to our first responders on this day of remembrance,” noted West Memphis Mayor Marco Mc-Clendon. “On this solemn day of remembrance for 9/11, we

want to extend our deepest gratitude to our West Memphis police officers, firefighters, and first responders. Your dedication to protecting our community reflects the same bravery and selflessness that we honor today.
The event included a ceremonial raising of the U.S. flag as well as music and prayer.
“We also thank the volunteers, organizers, and community members who helped make today's event special,” said West Memphis Communications Director Nick Coulter. “Mayor McClendon and the City of West Memphis and West Memphis Community Outreach appreciate your efforts in coming together to make today a meaningful success.
