I got a notice on my door that the city was going to shut my power off “for about 8 hours” on Thursday for “maintenance to our system”. Seems like you might not want to wait until the hottest day of the year to do that! How big of an area are we talking about? I live on Bond.
[ Editor’s Note: I called West Memphis Utilities and spoke to Electrical Superintendent Foster Rash. He said the temporary shut- down was necessary to perform some work that needed to be done in that area, which he said would cover “ a couple of blocks” from the school to the streets directly behind it. Hopefully, like you, the other customers that will be affected by the outage received a notice. I know there are probably a few elderly residents in that neighborhood, and I’m sure there are some pets that could be at home alone with the AC off, so here’s a heads up to anyone who has loved ones in that area: The power is scheduled to be shut off there tomorrow at approximately 6: 30 a. m., and my Marion schooling tells me that eight hours later is 2: 30 p. m., so if you need to make some sort of arrangements, please do so]
*** Well 8 p.m. Monday no paper at horseshoe I’m guessing we might as well get used to it.
[ Editor’s Note: Again, sorry about the recent spate of bad services. I will say that due to Horseshoe Lake being on the outer rim of our delivery area, you’re almost guaranteed to be at the end of the driver’s route. It’s just the nature of the beast, so to say. But we do value our customers in all areas of our circulation. I’m sure it’s not what you want to hear, but we do have a pretty snazzy online edition ( at www. theeveningtimes. com … there’s even an app) that you can get on your computer, tablet or smart phone as early as 10 a. m. It might not be an option for you, but it is an option]
*** Hello I’m Tammy Cook. My Father’s obituary was in today’s paper. I was gonna see if there was any way possible for me to get some copies of today’s paper? I haven’t had a chance to stop and get one due to having his funeral today. I could come by tomorrow and pick them up. [ Editor’s Note: Sorry for your loss. To you and to anyone looking for a recent or back issue ( at least for the previous few months), we’re open officially from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m., but there’s usually someone up here in some official capacity from 6: 30 a. m. to 6 p. m., and you can drop by any time to pick up a paper. We’re located at 1010 Hwy. 77, about as close to being exactly in between West Memphis and Marion as possible]
*** I wish we could live in a world like the movies on Hallmark channel. This sign at the Church of Christ needs to go viral. [ Editor’s Note: You know, it used to be “ Mayberry” that everyone put up as the ideal town from TV that we should all aspire to. Sadly, not too many folks from the more recent generations would even get the reference. Same goes for “ Little House on the Prairie,” “ The Waltons” or other shows that, at one time, provided a positive message on television. I’ll admit, I’m guilty of watching some of the “ trash TV” that’s out there, but you don’t see much in the way of an alternative these days]
