Greyhounds sign Little Rock scorer

Greyhound head coach Chris Parker has announced the signing of Jerrick Cole to an NJCAA Letter of Intent and Scholarship Agreement during a ceremony Wednesday at J.A. Fair Magnet High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The 5'10', 160-pound scorer helped lead the Class 5A War Eagles to a 22-6 record as they finished 11-3 to take the ultra tough 5ACentral conference's second seed into the State Tournament before losing in the quarterfinals. The War Eagles finished the season ranked fifth in Class 5A in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's final poll and 13th overall according to MaxPreps.com.

Cole finished the season as the War Eagles leading scorer while averaging 19.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and nearly 1 steal per game while shooting 44.7% from the field, 37.8% from the three-point line and over 86% from the free throw line. He also played AAU basketball for the Arkansas Wings organization under coach Ron Crawford.

One of the most decorated Greyhound signees ever, Cole was named All-Conference and All-State his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He also led his team to four consecutive state tournaments and was named to the All-State Tournament team all four years which included his freshman and sophomore seasons when J.A. Fair competed in Class 6A.

'Jerrick is a scoring guard who also has an uncanny ability to get his shot off under pressure,' said Parker. 'He comes from a very deliberate offense where he scored over 40% of his team's points, so he will need to make the adjustment to a faster game in college. But I love watching him play because he makes good decisions and can really shoot it,' Parker said.

Part of that may result from his father, Ricky Cole, being an assistant coach for the War Eagles. 'Jerrick has solid basketball skills and can shoot the ball,' said Coach Cole. 'He will just need to adjust to the college game, and he will. He loves the gym.'

'He's a player,' added J.A. Fair head coach Charlie Johnson. 'I'm looking forward to big things from him at ASU Mid-South.'
