A-State’s Mondie named to Rimington watch list
ASU Media Relations JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State senior offensive lineman Devin Mondie has been named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List, joining 56 other players across the nation to make the 2016 list announced Tuesday by the Rimington Trophy Committee.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s premier college center. Mondie is the fifth all-time A-State player to be named to the award’s watch list, joining Tyler Greve (2014), Bryce Giddens (2013), Tom Castilaw (2011) and Tanner Jenkins (2006).
Mondie moved to center last season after starting 12 games at guard as a sophomore in 2014. He missed two games due to injury, but started the remaining 11 at center to help lead the Red Wolves to the 2015 Sun Belt Conference championship and an appearance in the New Orleans Bowl.
The Olive Branch, Miss., native was part of Arkansas State’s line the helped the squad lead the Sun Belt Conference in scoring (40.0 ppg) and rank second in total offense (438.5 ypg) and third in rushing (231.3 ypg). He helped pave the way for 35 rushing touchdowns and provided pass protection for 23 touchdowns scored through the air. Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as an interior lineman.
