Eviction notice leads to standoff with police

West Memphis man arrested on assault, weapons charges

ralphhardin@gmail.com An attempt to serve a West Memphis man with an eviction notice turned into a potentially deadly situation and resulted in a threehour armed standoff with local law enforcement Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred Tuesday when officers from the Crittenden County Sheriff's Office arrived at the residence of Henry Johnson, 57, at 2950 E.

Jackson, in West Memphis. Johnson was said to have brandished a pistol outside of the residence before returning back inside the residence. West Memphis Police soon arrived to the scene to assist. Johnson then came outside, waved the gun and then went back inside.

As the situation unfolded, medical crews, and crisis intervention teams were brought to the home to help for a peaceful ending, and after about three hours, Johnson finally walked out with police.

He was taken to the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with Aggravated Assault and Felon in Posession of a Firearm. He is currently being held at the Crittenden County Detention Center awaiting arraignment in District Court.
