Perkins takes three state titles
Robinson to join Perkins at Meet of Champions
WM School District Academies of West Memphis junior Paris Perkins stole the show last Thursday in the Class 7A state track and field meet by winning all three sprint races as well as the long jump.
Perkins, who was the state meet's high-point girl, won the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 400 meters and then jumped 18-4 in the long jump for first place as well.
Perkins and sophomore teammate Dadrianna Robinson will compete in the Meet of Champs later this week. Robinson finished in first at the state meet in the high jump with a height of 5-5.
Perkins won the 100 meters with a time of 11.98, outdistancing second- place finisher Tamara Kuyinendal of Little Rock Central, who ran a 12.18.
Perkins then won the 200 meters with a time of 24.65, almost a full second faster than second-place finisher Jadyn Lewis of Bryant, who was timed in 25.36.
Perkins capped her sprint day by edging out Lewis in the 400 meters. Perkins ran a 56.77 to Lewis' 57.66.
Robinson easily won the high jump as second-place finisher Aly Brinkley of Conway leaped 5-3.
In the boys division, West Memphis' Zachary Dantzler placed fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.26.
Others from West Memphis to compete in the state meet were Adara Russell, who placed fourth in the girls discus and fifth in the shot put, Jakeisha Bowers, who placed sixth in the 400 meters, fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 100 meters, Lynn Walker was 10th in the high jump and 14th in the long jump.
In the boys division, Le'Darius Scott was 11th in the 800 meters and David McCoy was 10th in the discus.
