A large crowd attended the open house held at the Crittenden County Museum, April 17. The special event was to honor the memory of the late Bryan W. Speed, the museums first director.

Aman of many talents, Mr. Speed was a musician, artist, teacher, author of a children’s book and poetry books with his own illustrations.

The Red Hat Society provided refreshments.

Clara Miller organized a group of quilts that were on display.

Special guests were Jane Speed of Earle and Mark Speed of Little Rock.

A total of 100 were present from Earle, Parkin, West Memphis, Marion, Turrell, Black Oak and Crawfordsville.

Coming from Branson, Missouri was Theresa Butts, Jessie Fong of San Jose, California and Millington, Tennessee was present, along with Sharon Pugh of Millington. Holly Blaylock attended from Germany. She was with Sabine Meyers of Memphis and Germany. Eric Elms and Corey Lews also drove over from Memphis for the special event.

*** The Earle Music Coterie met at the Earle Baptist Church April 21.

Janis Lancaster presided in absence of the president and led the reading of the club collect.

Mary Jo Staggs told the story of the song “Eternal Father Strong To Save” followed by group singing accompanied by Susie Jones and led by Janis Lancaster.

Sue Ann Elms was in charge of the poetry moment. She read the poem “An Adoptees Prayer.”

Those having perfect attendance for the club year were Janis Lancaster, Christine Littlejohn, Dot McKinney, Mary Jo Staggs, Jane Speed, Frankie Swindle and Sue Ann Elms.

Sue Ann was in charge of the program presented by Debbie Capps, Victoria Harris, Janet Duffel, Susie Jones, Martie Ramsey and Christy Gross.

The first selection was a flute, piano duet entitled “I Love You Lord” played by Debbie Capps on the flute and Susie Jones on the piano. Victoria Harris played “Places That Belong To You” and “Be Thou My Vision” as piano solos. Susie and Debbie also played “The Gift Of Love” as a piano, flute duet.

“The Parkman Sisters” Susie, Martie Ramsey and Christy Gross sang “Sincerely” and “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree.”

Janet Duffel and Susie played a piano duet written in the year 1910 entitled “Who Let The Cows Out?”

Other members present were Jimmie Barham and Elleene Holloway. Guests were Eric Elms, Allison Bird, Ken Lancaster, Coretta Allen and Jamayia Allen.

Jane Speed and Sue Ann Elms were co-hosts. They served pie, nuts, bugles and cokes.

The next meeting will be held in September.

*** The Crittenden County Muses Red Hat Society met at Coltons in Marion April 23.

Mary Ann Pollard of Marion and Polly O’Neil of West Memphis were cohosts.

The tables were covered with purple cloths and decorated with a streamer of colorful candies down the center of the table.

Favors were treat bags.

Others present were Christine Littlejohn, Ann Pickering- Philyaw, Ellen Holloway, Gayle Berry and Janis Lancaster of Earle, Minnie McCain and Chris Jones of Parkin, Nancy La Ferney and Gerry Clark of West Memphis, Dot McKinney, a guest from Earle, and Clara Miller of Marion, Queen Mom.

*** Brenda Shempert of Wynne was hostess to the Canasta Club at her home recently.

Lou Burns of Marked Tree won high score, Judy Tacker Sharp of Marked Tree won second, Terre Rodgers of Earle won low and Debbie Franks of Tyronza won bingo.

Others present were Kim Fraley of Crawfordsville, Kaye Lehman of Marion, Mary Jane Edwards of Earle and Bobbie Estes of Jonesboro.

*** The 39er’s of the Earle Baptist Church had dinner at Fusion April 22.

Taking the trip to West Memphis was Christine Littlejohn, Doug Manchester, Kay and Rev. Bill Watt, Frankie Swindle, Ken and Louis Lancaster, Charlene and Elbert Person, Rev. Tony Wells, chairman of the group and Mary Frances and Edmon Davis. *** Dot McKinney, Gayle Berry, Ellen Holloway, Christine Littlejohn and Sue Ann Elms had lunch together at Uncle John’s Restaurant in Crawfordsville April 19.

*** Bobby Shannon was guest speaker at the Assembly of God Church Men’s meeting held April 21.

The group enjoyed a chicken dinner.

Included were Carlos Love, Wade Young, John Buford and son Austin, Matt Cox, Bobby Rodgers, Ricky Sides, Manuel Clouse, Elbert Person and Clayton Adams, pastor.

*** The Men’s Prayer and Coffee Group met at the Earle Baptist Church April 27.

Those present were Ken Lancaster, Elbert Person, Rev. Clayton Adams, Edmon Davis, Bill Rogers, Bob Baker and Doug Manchester.

*** Ashley Cox was in charge of planning Movie Night for the Assembly of God Church children when they met recently to see “Soul Surfer.”

The children were each given play money to buy tickets and visit the concession stand to select candy or a treat of their choice.

Included were Emma and Olivia Watson, Austin and Ethan Buford, Gabe and Jackson Glide, Catherine and Chase Kitchens, Nick Partain, Carrie Ann Parnell, David Parnell, Samantha Miner, Cassandra Soto, Bella Newingham and Gracie Winders.

Other adults present were Matt and Ashley Cox, Tracy and John Buford, Tammy and Amy Soto.

Hailee Newingham also helped the adults.

*** Ayden Cole is the name chosen for the second son born to Shannon and Brock Walker of Wynne April 21 at the Forrest City Hospital.

He weighed 7 pounds and was 19 inches long.

Welcoming him home was his four year old brother, Blayne.

Grandparents are Susie and Mike Root of Marion, Tricia and Mark Walker of Cherry Valley. Great-grandparents are Ruth and Bobby Guy of Earle.
