Marion completes season sweep of Mountain Home
Special to the Times MOUNTAIN HOME — A pair of late-inning rallies propelled Marion to a season sweep of Mountain Home with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Bombers on Friday night in 7A/6A-East Conference action at Keller Park.
The Lady Patriots – who defeated Mountain Home 6-0 on Tuesday at Marion – scored a run in their first at-bat as Morgan Weaver doubled and scored on another double by Hope Phipps.
The Lady Bombers evened the score in the bottom of the first as Macie Kelly walked, stole second, took third on a sacrifice by Sydnie Zimmer, and scored on a groundout by Peyton Gunn to make it 1-1.
Mountain Home could only put a runner in scoring position three more times in the entire game as Phipps, the Lady Patriot pitcher, allowed just three hits in the game and struck out seven.
The Lady Patriots finally gained some separation in the top of the fifth inning as Mabry Watson belted a one-out, solo home run for a 2-1 lead, and Weaver doubled again and was driven home by former Lady Bomber Raygan Shelton, who moved to Marion at the end of last school year.
Marion added one more in the sixth as Blakeleigh Garrison drew a twoout walk and scored on a triple by Watson, making it 4-1.
Lady Bomber Hannah Cantrell allowed four earned runs on seven hits, taking the loss in the circle.
Riley Walker had two singles to lead Mountain Home’s offense, while Zimmer added a double.
The Lady Patriots were led at the plate by Watson and Weaver, who each went 2 for 4, while Phipps, Shelton and Josey Moix each added hits for Marion.
