Church hosts fundraiser to sent students on summer mission trip
ralphhardin@gmail.com For the second time in as many months, Marion First Baptist Church played host to a one-day, all-day co-ed volleyball tournament to help the First Marion Student Ministry raise money to fund the groups summer mission trip to Puerto Rico.
More than two dozen local mission-minded students will be giving up a week of their summer break to go on the trip, described as part-evangelical, part-construction mission. For the past several months, the students have put on a number of fundraising efforts, including another volleyball tournament back in March, a dinner and auction event, several “parent’s night out” baby-sitting nights and a Tshirt sale. This past Saturday’s “Viva La Volleyball” event was a “blind draw” tourney, with teams being formed from the pool of players that showed up that morning or signed up on Facebook. A round-robin determined the seeding for a single-elimination tournament to crown the champs.
