Read Across America, Read Across Earle

Teachers, students, seniors come together to promote reading, literacy at Earle Library

ralphhardin@gmail.com “Reading is Fundamental.” That’s been a slogan for literacy advocates for more than four decades. And, of course, you can’t spell “fundamental” withou “F-U-N.”

And a little fun was just what the doctor ordered — Dr.

Seuss, that is.

Like many local schools, the Earle Library and the Earle Elementary School teachers got in on the recent “Read Across America” celebration of beloved children’s author Theodor Geisel’s — AKA Dr. Seuss — 112th birthday.

On March 31, parents, teachers, students and community seniors all got together for a library card drive, with parents getting their own library cards and encouraging their children to do more reading.

The event including story time, dressing up like the Cat in the Hat from one of Seuss’ most popular books and plenty of fun for all ages.

Read Across America was started in 1997, and has since become the largest annual celebration of reading in the country.

Jungle Book

DeltaARTS' Crittenden Youth Theatre's spring musical, “The Jungle Book KIDS,” entertained hundreds of theatre-goers March 10 and 11, at the RiverPAC Civic Auditorium. More than 60 K-8 cast members brought the beloved Disney characters to life with colorful, vivid costumes and a breathtaking set put together by parent volunteers and CYT staff and crew.
