The Crittenden County Election Commission certi_ed the _nal results of the 2024 general election on Friday, November 15, after counting provisional, mailin, and absentee ballots. While most candidates and issues saw slight increases in vote totals, none were suf_cient to alter the outcomes of any races.

The race for Marion City Council Ward 1-1 will proceed to a runoff election between Kelsey Pirani Hensley, who received 2,281 votes, and Gene Hardin, who garnered 1,344 votes. Austin Cates was eliminated with 1,284 votes. (see side story)

Key results

State Representative, District 35: Republican Robert Thorne Jr. narrowly defeated Democrat Jessie McGruder with a _nal tally of 4,565 to 4,539.

State Representative,

District 63: Democrat Lincoln Barnett edged out Republican Tammi Northcutt Bell, winning 2,713 votes to 2,708.

State Supreme Court Chief Justice: Karen Baker retained a commanding lead with 8,028 votes over Rhonda Wood’s 5,387.

Justice of the Peace, District 8: Republican Sidney Hardin won with 1,001 votes against Democrat Thula Thomas, who received 793 votes.

Justice of the Peace, District 10: Republican Bradly Moore defeated Democrat

Jimmy Fraley with 976 votes to 814.

Local issues and bonds

Issue #1: Passed with strong support, 12,926 votes in favor and 1,412 against.

Issue #2: Approved narrowly, with 7,806 votes for and 6,369 against.

Issue #3: Passed decisively, 9,436 to 4,589 although it was nulli_ed by the Supreme Court.

West Memphis .25 percent Sales and Use Tax:

Rejected by voters, with 3,565 against and 2,556 in favor.

West Memphis Bond Issues: Voters approved improvements for parks, police, _re, and drainage, with strong support for drainage improvements (4,425 votes for and 1,661 against).

Marion Hotel Tax:

Passed with 2,872 votes for and 2,205 against.

Position 4: Roy L. Eason secured the seat with 41 votes, defeating K.C. McKenney, who received 5 votes.

City Clerk: Candace Pirani won decisively with 132 votes against Karatha McWright’s 21 votes.

Marion

Ward 2-1: Cliff Wood defeated Steve Stevens, earning 2,847 votes to Stevens’ 1,935.

Ward 3-1: Bryan Jackson emerged victorious with 3,104 votes, defeating Austin Smith, who garnered 1,792 votes.

Sunset

Position 1: Floyd Williams won with 39 votes over Rickey T. Phelix’s 23 votes.

Position 2: Donella James narrowly defeated Jerome Wray, 36 votes to 29.

Position 5: Barbara Moss claimed the position with 36 votes, surpassing Barbara Matthews, who received 27 votes.

West Memphis Ward 1-2: Tracy L. Catt won with 1,230 votes, defeating Dr. Alfreda Robinson (643 votes) and Jessica Burns (215 votes).

Ward 3-2: Wayne Croom secured victory with 913 votes against Joseph Tucker Jr.’s 352 votes.

Ward 4-2: David V. Murray narrowly defeated Tyrone McWright, 441 votes to 426.

Ward 5-2: Willis Mondy won with 403 votes, beating Al Felton, who received 275 votes.
