Bond set at $ 250,000 for Century Hydraulic arson suspects

Awoman in jail was asked, “Do you live in Memphis?” Sobbing she answered, “Yes, sir.”

“If we get you to Memphis, do you have a place to go?” “Yes, sir.”

“Jail, get her on the MATA bus and get her back home. Case dismissed,” said Judge Fred Thorne in West Memphis District Court.

A woman in the jail was called up, as well as a woman in the courtroom.

“How do you plead to domestic battery?”

The woman in jail pled “no contest.” The woman in the courtroom pled “Not guilty.” “What do you do for a living?” asked Judge Thorne to the woman in jail.

“I am currently unemployed.”

“$500 plus court costs and six months jail suspended. Complete your probation and I’ll dismiss it. The lady here in court must sign a waiver and get a trial date.”

A woman in jail was charged with no driver’s license, no seatbelt and failure to appear. She pled guilty, guilty and no contest.

“Why didn’t you come to court?”

“I was in the hospital. I came to court Monday and I’ve been in jail since then.” “You have many previous charges. I could say a lot about this but I’ll just say, $105 plus court costs and three days jail on the no driver’s license. $25 plus court costs on the seatbelt and court costs on the failure to appear.”

Aman in jail pled not guilty to failure to yield and no insurance but pled guilty to driving on suspended.

“$500 plus court costs and three days jail on the driving on suspended. May 16 will be your court date on the other charges.”

A man in jail charged with loitering pled no contest.

“You were loitering at 4:15 a.m.”

“I been staying there at the motel all week. I told the officers but they arrested me anyway.”

“Call the motel and see what days he was there. $250 plus court costs or 30 days and $500 if you are lying to me.”

After a while the court clerk told the judge, “He checked out the day before he was arrested.”

Awoman in jail was asked, “Where do you live?”

“West Memphis, at the Residential Treatment Center.” “The Logan Center?”

“Yes, sir.”

“You said you were going to blow a resident’s head off. Call the Logan Center. Someone needs to be here. They will have to take her back.”

A woman in the courtroom pled guilty to DWI, refusal and careless driving.

“Where do you work?”

“At the FedEx Forum.”

“Go talk to the DWI lady.”

Judge Fred Thorne A man in the courtroom pled no contest to no insurance and guilty to failure to stop.

“$50 on the insurance and $65 plus court costs on the failure to stop. Go to driver’s

school.”

Awoman was asked, “How do you plead on driving on suspended?”

“Guilty. I didn’t know it was suspended.”

“If you don’t pay your fines, in Tennessee or Arkansas, your license will get suspended. $235 plus court costs and two days house arrest.” A woman with no proof of insurance pled no contest.

“It is a one year policy. We are going to call your insurance company. Have a seat.” A man in the courtroom was charged with failure to come to his own trial. He pled guilty.

“$500 plus court costs. We had all the witnesses here and you didn’t show up. You have no respect.”

A man in the courtroom was to have brought back insurance information. He gave his information to the bailiff.

“That is the insurance for your Cadillac. Where is the insurance on your motorcycle?”

“In the car.”

“Go get it!”

The man later came back in with the proper information. “$35 plus costs on the insurance.

Add this to his previous

fines.”

A young man with his mother was asked how he pled on no proof of insurance.

“Nolo.”

“How many times have you been in court before?”

His mother answered, “Many.”

“Are you having a problem with him? Four hours community service. After you do your community service I will dismiss the charge.”

A man charged with theft pled no contest.

“You were stealing from Walmart. It was a wireless blue-tooth headphone. Why did you do that?”

“I was just being a dummy.”

“Do you work?”

“Yes.”

“Where you work you make at least $15 an hour. Why did you need to steal?” “It was just dumb of me.”

“$500 plus court costs and six months jail suspended to six months probation.”

A man charged with domestic

battery pled no contest.

“This reports says you did domestic battery against your daughter.”

“I didn’t do it.”

Two men in jail were called up on their felony arson charges. They were both represented by attorneys.

“You two are charged with arson in burning Century Hydraulic.”

“The fire chief and assistant chief were in the courtroom. “The damage was estimated at $737,000. There were two firefighters hurt,” said Fire Chief Gates.

“This is a Class Y felony. You can get 10 to 40 years. The building was a total loss and people are out of work. $250,000 bond. Make bond and be in circuit court,” said Judge Thorne.
