Inmate workers with the Arkansas Community Corrections Department move in some mattresses Monday morning at their new building in West Memphis. The certified treatment center for nonviolent female offenders will open on a yet undetermined date in the next three months at the county’s old hospital building. Lawn mowing and landscape work are the orders of the day Monday. Work crews began sprucing up the ACC’s newest facility by mowing grass and pruning shrubs on the south side of the building. The first spring cleaning at the old hospital in a couple of years is underway. Weed-eating and raking, every worker had a tool in hand giving the greenscape a face-lift at the former Crittenden Regional site. ACC supervisors inspect the grounds keeping work along the walk. The ACC officially took possesion of the the property on April 1, ending the county’s responsibility for paying the utilities and upkeep after more than a year-and-a-half following the old hospital’s closure.
