The Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church will hold a “Celebration for the Community Pancake Breakfast” on March 16. Serving hours will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Horseshoe Lake Baptist Church on Lake Estates Drive.

The Horseshoe Lake Library has a new batch of best sellers and other books of interest available for our patrons. Our new additions include “Fire & Blood”, the first part of George R.R. Martin’s two-part history of the Targareyens in Westeros set three hundred years before “A Game of Thrones”; the psychological thriller “The Temp” by Michelle Frances; the Sara Medlar mystery “A Willing Murder” by Jude Deveraux; the post-apocalyptic fantasy “Of Blood and Bone” (Book 2 of “Chronicles of The One” series by Nora Roberts; the detective thriller “The Boy” by Tami Hoag; “Ambush” featuring Detective Michael Bennett by James Patterson and James O. Born; the Stone Barrington thriller “A Delicate Touch” by Stuart Woods; the Alex Delaware detective novel “The Wedding Guest” by Jonathan Kellerman; the medical thriller “Pandemic” by Robin Cook; the Detective Eve Dallas murder mystery “Connections in Death” by J.D. Robb; “Winter in Paradise”, the first book in a new drama series by Elin Hilderbrand; the thriller “Judgment” by Joseph Finder; the historical romance mystery “Hidden Among the Stars” by Melanie Dobson; the romance “Yours and Mine” by Debbie Macomber; the military thriller “The Enemy of My Enemy” by W.E.B. Griffin; and the 2019 World Almanac and Book of Facts. The library is open from noon until 5 on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, and has thousands of other books available to be checked out. We also have computers with internet use and a large collection of audio books on CD.
Report from Water Operator, Rick Scarbrough was water samples from February were not back yet, time to order chlorine and the sewer pumps were pumped out last month. There was discussion over a sewer line going to pond, that needs to be addressed. Report from Fire Chief Thomen was the training practice they had with multiple Fire Departments, within Crittenden County last month, went well and they hope to schedule another training session end of March, possibly on a Sunday. Also, a reminder that Fire Department annua statementl dues were currently be sent out. Report from Code Enforcement Officer, Winston Trail, he has found some issues with variances over the line and most have agreed to correct. If you need NEW service from Entergy, to a property in the town, you will have to apply for a permit at City Hall and they will send a request, letting Entergy know permit is signed off, back to Entergy. No personal calls from one requiring NEW service, will be accepted by Entergy. If you are renting/ transferring an existing service from Entergy, an individual will be able to call and transfer. Under Old Business the budget was approved at last months meeting and the Tree Truck that was parked on Highland Dr. has been removed. Under New business, there was only one grass cutting bid packet received and opened and council agreed to accept. There was discussion over what previous playground equipment they had in storage, should be replaced in the Park. Council passed with one council member not in favor. An Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for April 6th with a rain date of April 13, at the Horseshoe Lake Library. A council working meeting is scheduled for March 12, at 6 p.m. at City Hall, they are going to review some of the ordinances, meeting is open to the public. There was reminder that if you have a business or hiring anyone to perform any work on your property a 2019 Privilege License must be purchased at City Hall. Also, before starting any projects on your property, the Code Enforcement Officer will advise whether a permit is needed. Contact City Hall if you have any questions or failure to do so, could result in a fine. Fire Chief Thomen, expressed an idea about Sky Cop cameras to the council, no action was taken yet. There was discussion on the Code Enforcement Officer’s duty and if permit could be exempted for the Church inside the town limit, when placing a storage building.
Bunco
The Year-Round Bunco ladies played at the home of Donna Culver, who was also hostess for March. Donna served Rotel-chicken, salad, hot rolls, Sock-It-To-Me Cake and Brownies. High score was won by Kathy Davenport. Low score went to Donna Culver, after a roll-off with Pat Walters. Most Big Buncos was won by Stephanie Shelby and Travelers was won by Pat Walters. The group welcomed three new players for the coming year. They are Jayla White, Stacey McDermott and Patricia Barkley Clark.
