Blue Devils well-represented in annual All-Star game
Coach Elmore will be on the sidelines, with Olloway and Robinson on the field
WM School District On the heels of an 11-1 campaign, the West Memphis Blue Devils will be heavily represented at the annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association football all-star game in June.
Blue Devil head coach Billy Elmore will be one of the East assistant coaches and two of his top players, Devin Olloway and Mark Robinson, will be on the East roster.
“We’re well-represented, but there’s also a chance we may get another player or two for the game because nowadays, depending on whether colleges will let their signees play in the game, there may be a shift in the final roster,” explained Elmore, whose team won the 6A-East Conference championship, won its first 11 games and advanced to the state semifinals for the second straight year.
“The rule is that no school gets more than two players, but that rule could get waived because of the college issue. Our two players are very well deserving and I am excited for them.”
Robinson, a defensive end, led the Blue Devil defense with 4 sacks and he had 13.5 tackles for lost yardage. Robinson compiled 45 solo tackles and 19 assists.
Olloway was the Blue Devils’ biggest offensive weapon in 2018 with 28 receptions for 851 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also rushed 25 times for 142 yards and two more touchdowns. Olloway also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Elmore said he is excited about the opportunity to coach in the all-star game.
“I think the most fun thing about the all-star game is working with the different kids and coaching with other coaches from different schools,” said Elmore. “With the kids staying in the dorms all week it’s like a college atmosphere. Making new friends, both players and coaches, are a big part of it.”
