Paris Perkins Ends indoor season with a USATF National Championship
Sports Staff Paris Perkins continues to shine during her Junior Indoor Season.
At the start of the season, she set goals to compete in the New Balance Indoor National and to break the 55 second barrier in the 400 meters. Perkins started the season with a win at the ASU Kickoff Klassic in Jonesboro where she was one of only five high school student invited to the meet.
Perkins followed that performance off with a top-20 national performance at LSU in the 400 landing her number 17 on the Milesplit.com rankings.
Perkins chose to compete in the Vanderbilt High School Invitational in Nashville rather than the State Championship. This gave her a chance to run with faster competition and it paid off. She ran her all time personal best with a time of 55.49. Two weeks later in Louisville, KY she ran another personal best and earned the number 14 national fastest time for the year.
Achieving one of the her two preseason goals, Perkins went to New York to compete in the New Balance Indoor National Championship and also the USATF Hershey Indoor Youth Championship. She finished 13th in New Balance missing the finals by one place, however she became the USATF 17-18 400 Meters Indoor National Champion setting a new national record.
