Earle Lady Bulldogs continued to put up big numbers against opponents, easily breezing past regional and conference rival Marked Tree 90-41 Tuesday night in front of a home crowd.
Earle (12-2,7-0) jumped out to an early 33-9 lead in the first, then added 22 more points to take a 55-18 lead at halftime.
The Lady Indians had a decent third period, but were still outscored 17-15 by Earle. The Bulldogs though, held Marked Tree to only six points in the final period while piling on 18 more points.
Head Coach Corey Garrett said despite the impressive point total, he still noted some areas offensively and defensively that needed some work.
“I think the girls played well and I’m pleased with the effort,” Garrett said.
“ But if I had to give it a grade I’d give it a ‘C.’ As a coach, I see things that we need to be able to do against better competition.
I looked at the execution and I think we should have executed better. And we didn’t come out in the second half and play defense as good as I thought we should have. So even though you win by 50 points, I’m looking at the lapses in defense and not executing on offense.”
RoShaia Scott led the team with 29 points with 13 of 17 field goal shots and was 2 of 8 on three point attempts. Elaijha Brown added 19 points and was 9 of 16 shooting. Colbi Maples pumped in 18 points and Takilya Toombs contributed nine points.
“RoShaia had a big night,” Garrett said. “Elaijha and Colbi had a good game too. Takilya Toombs and Kelsey Moore also added a nice punch for us inside.”
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Friday at 4 p.m.
at home for another conference matchup against EPC. “It will be a little tougher game than this one,” Garrett said. “We played EPC once before and they play hard and they present more of a challenge than this game. I’m not saying we will win by that kind of margin. But we expect to win.”
N’Kya Mathis scores a bucket on a breakaway play during action the Lady Bulldogs 90-41 victory over rival Marked Tree.
