West Memphis has nice break
WM School District The West Memphis baseball Blue Devils won two out of three games over Spring Break.
Junior third baseman Hayden Spears rapped out a game-high three hits and teammates Jordan Walls and Taylor Roeder each had three RBI as the Blue Devils drubbed Rivercrest 10-0.
Also, the Blue Devils defeated Fayette Academy 5-0 behind a completegame shutout by sophomore Conner Allen.
The only loss for West Memphis was a 4-2 decision to Covington, Tenn.
In the win over Rivercrest, the Blue Devils bolted to an early 6-0 lead behind a pair of three-run innings over the second and third frames. Allen threw 4.2 innings of twohit ball to claim the victory on the mound while striking out 7. Roeder added two hits for West Memphis while Allen had a hit and an RBI.
Another three-run inning in the sixth by West Memphis ended the affair early with the 10-run rule.
In the win over Fayette Academy, Allen fanned 12 and also had two hits at the plate as did junior shortstop Nick Allsbrook. Walls added a hit for the Blue Devils while sophomore Curtis Washington led the way in RBI with two while Austin Sudbury, a junior, had one.
West Memphis pushed across three runs in the third inning to take full ownership of the contest.
In the loss to Covington, the Blue Devils raced to a 2-0 lead after four innings before Covington scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Allsbrook pitched five solid innings and struck out four.
