WMCS notches district win Black Knights on a winning streak
Sports Editor West Memphis Christian lost a heartbreaker last week, but didn’t let that hold them back.
The Black Knights dropped a potentially-devastating 9-8 decision to Tunica Academy as the Blue Devils won on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning.
West Memphis Christian trailed by two runs entering the seventh, but tied the game in their final plate appearance.
Patrick Ratliffe was 3-5, Evin Cooper went 3-4, Jacob Hatcher and Parker Stewart went 1-4, Matthew Baker was 1-3 and Hunter Weathers and Jacob Phillips each went 1-2.
After that game, West Memphis Christian won the junior varsity game 5-1 as Parker Benson toted a perfect game into the last inning before a few errors behind him helped the hosts notch a run.
Benson helped his cause by going 2-3 at the plate, while Jacob Hatcher, Jaiden Ryals, Austin LaRue, Blake Swan and Seann Skjefete all went 12.
Following the Tunica loss, West Memphis Christian went 2-0 last week before the rain hit.
On Monday, the Black Knights topped Class AAA Lee Academy from Clarksdale, Mississippi 52.
Hatcher was 3-3, Manning Shidler was 2-3 and Cooper went 3-3. Parker Stewart claimed the win for West Memphis Christian.
West Memphis Christian got on the board in the district last Tuesday, topping Marvel Academy 17-9, thanks to Hatcher going 34, Shidler posting 2-3, Brady Holloway going 3-5, Benson hitting 2-2, Cooper going 2-3, Jacob Phillps going 1-1, and Charlie Farr, Weathers, Baker and Cole Wann all going 1-3.
Stewart got the win and Benson got the save.
