WM students shine in Mathematics competition

ASU Mid-South plays host to ACT contest

West Memphis School District The West Memphis School District had a strong showing at the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics Contest at ASU-Mid-South last Saturday.

Twenty-five students from the Academies of West Memphis earned awards for their performances.

In Geometry, special recognition went to James Williams, Chris Reid and Jacob Warren. In algebra II, special recognition went to Tyler Dye, Dawson Mathis, Kaiden Holt, Micah Smith, Jordan Young, Amarius Stinnett, Verriae Wear, Kennedy McClanahan and Ryan Lewis. Third place went to Reagan Rushing.

In Precalculus/ Trigonometry, special recognition went to Brittany Branstetter, Joshua Dantzler, Joshua Foster, Riley Young and Jason Scott.

Michael Hinson stood out with a first-place finish in Pre-c alculus/Trigonometry.

Bryan Conston won third place in Statistics while special recognition went to Madilyn Campbell, Jonathan Sparrow and Trevor Wise.

Blue Devils took the first two places in Calculus as Laith El-Bairoti won second place and Ryan Conston took first place.

West Junior High students also earned strong showings, including Alex Speak, who won first place in Algebra while Adrianna Hardy was second.

Honorable mention went to Logan Richerson and Luke Reece.

In Geometry, Tyshawn Campbell finished in first place.

Wonder Junior High also sent several students to the math contest, including Jacob Stokes, Lamarrius Danley, Jerrico McClure, Justin Brown, Oshae Carlock, Atherius Scott, Morgan Brown and Nykeria Brown in Algebra I.

In Geometry, Wonder's contingent included Jada Jenkins and Kandice Mclure. Jerrico McClure won an honorable mention in Algebra I, which means he missed third place by a tie-breaker question.

Wonder also participated in a car design competition in which their car tied for the fourth-longest distance traveled.
