A guy looked at my Corvette the other day and said “I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that sports car cost.” I replied I am not sure, it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people who made the components that went into it, it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the wires, it fed people in Decatur At Caterpillar who make the trucks that haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer and fed the people working at the dealership and their families. But… I have to admit, I guess I really don't know how many people it fed. That is the difference between capitalism and welfare mentality. When you buy something, you put money in people's pockets, and give them dignity for their skills. When you give someone something for nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self-worth. [ Editor’s Note: I’ve heard similar parables with the item in question being some other luxury item, but no matter the item, it is true that any manufactured good has a ripple effect of economic impact from its creation. Let’s hope that the economic growth we’ve enjoyed in recent years continues into the next few]
*** As a life-long local resident, I will swear by Howard’s Donuts as being the best around. BUT… if you haven’t tried the new Marion Donut place where Daylight Donuts used to be, you need to. They are awesome. They are different from Howard’s so you can get your donut fix and still get something new. [ Editor’s Note: I had not tried the new place until this Sunday, when I needed to make a quick run for snacks for my Sunday School class, and you are right that they are both delicious and different from “ the other guys.” I feel like this community has a big enough sweet tooth to support two donut places]
*** It has been rumored that the anti-Trump protestors are being paid to protest. Is there any truth that is actually ocurring.
[ Editor’s Note: Well, if so, it’s nice to see the pro- Hillary crowd holding down a job. Hahahahahahaha! Hahaha!
Haha! Ha…. ha. Sorry, I’ll let myself out]
