Southeastern Insurance Group in search of title

By The Evening Times Sports Staff On Saturday October 1 Arkansas State University Mid-South will hold its annual fundraiser benefitting the ASU Mid-South Greyhounds. The event now titled Runnin' Dogs and Cookin' Cats, includes its longstanding 5k and new events such as a catfish cooking completion, live music, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, exhibitions by Greyhound Basketball players, kids zone with inflatables and a pup race. The events presenting sponsor will once again be Southland Park Gaming and Racing. One of the teams participating in this years 3 on 3 basketball tournament is Southeastern Insurance Group led by former MYSA stars and current ASU Mid-South Foundation directors Franklin Fogleman, Nick Sutton and Matthew Glass. Fogleman who suffers from asthma from years of pipe smoking as a child will run the offense. When asked about the completion on Saturday, Fogleman said he was in the best shape of his life and had been training for over a year for the event by running long distances of up to 10 yards. Sutton a local banker started playing professionally over seas when he was 3. Sutton said he is as confident as ever in his long range shooting ability and his pesky defensive play. Once a substitute in MYSA, Sutton said his years of riding the pine over seas has prepared him well to take the title. Glass who owns a local insurance agency has been a legend in the Crittenden County basketball world for years. Glass said he felt the experience of once sharing a BBQ sandwhich with former West Memphis High School stand out Keith Lee had taught him a lot about the game. Glass remarked,'Growing up I always dominated on the concrete driveways of Crittenden County and when the opportunity came along to join this team I just couldn't pass it up. Dr. Deborah West, Chancellor of ASU Mid-South and ASU System President Dr. Charles Welch are really going to have to rethink this thing. By allowing a team as skilled as us to play is really not fair to the other teams competing' Sutton says he feels confident the mercy rule will be enforced quicker than Welch can down a donut. The event is being held on the ASU Mid-South campus and is open to the public. So far the event has raised more than $60,000 with all proceeds going to fund athletic scholarships for ASU Mid-South Basketball team.
