Here’s what everyone is talking about this week:

Let us remember that Hillary still has an upholding reputation, and already spent alot of time making improvements & helping people in appropriate ways, no matter their skin color, around some really good government leaders. Stop slandering people based on gender and skin complexion alone. [ Editor’s Note: Especially when there are so many other worthy reasons for slandering someone, am I right?]

*** Putting a red light on College Blvd? It’s about time. [ Editor’s Note: I’ll admit I did not realize that was such a dangerous intersection. I often find it a hassle trying to make a left turn on to College Boulevard from the Service Road, heading west, but I never felt I was in danger. But I guess I don’t go that way very often, and there certainly are a lot of big rigs in that area, so hopefully this will help]

*** I guess you have to give it Mr. Robert Hall for never giving up on his dream of President Trump. But maybe someone should tell him you can’t ride a dead horse to the finish line.

[ Editor’s Note: That’s a take on “ beating a dead horse” I hadn’t heard before, so well done there. Now, as to your point, I fully believe that Donald Trump has always been, and remains unelectable for a number of reasons, but mainly because I just don’t see there being enough Republican voters in enough states to to capture 270 Electoral Votes. But having said that, I’ve seen the Trump campaign go from “ Donald Trump is running for what? Hahaha!” to “ There’s no way he can beat guys like Bush and Cruz” to “ Hmm, people seem to like a lot of what he’s saying, but when the Primaries start…” to “ Well, there’s still the Convention” to “ But now that it’s down to Trump and Hillary” to “ Well, who do we dislike the least?” So, do I think Trump can win now? I still say it’s unlikely. But I don’t think the “ dead horse” ( or should it be “ dead elephant”) analogy is appropriate yet]

*** How do you decide who’s mugshot to put in the paper in the big daddy bail bond box on page 5? It seems like a lot more people get arrested than what you put in there? Is there a secret formula? [ Editor’s Note: Why, what did you do? OK, so at least you didn’t ask if there was some kind of conspiracy to keep certain people out of the “ Bookings at the Crittenden County Detention Center,” which is what we call that section, that way we’re not presuming anyone is guilty just because they were arrested. Anyway, those mug shots, along with the charges and other information, come directly from the Crittenden County Sheriff ’ s Office. And no, I don’t run every one of them. Depending on the day, there are anywhere from 10 to 20 arrests made in the county ( and more over the weekend) so that wouldn’t really be feasible. And some of those are traffic violations, parole violations, petty things like suspended driver’s license or a DUI. I try to limit it to felonies, drug charges, assaults, or crimes that may need to be public information for businesses ( like credit card fraud or shoplifting) or to the public ( fugitive warrants or domestic violence). Every now and then somerthing minor might get through because it sounds worse ( think “ absconding” or “ drunk, insane or disorderly person”) than it might actually be. But I don’t try to “ balance out” the list for race or gender or whatever, if that’s what you’re wondering. If you just really, really need to know “ who got busted,” I think they still sell that magazine at the gas station]

*** To whom it may concern. I’m a disabled senior citizen. I moved here from Chicago and bout a house. I lost my house due to the storm in 2011 or 2012 can’t remember when. But I have this big tree on my lot that I have to get rid of. I’ve called the city and light company to help trim or cut it down. No help there. I’m on a fixed income and can’t afford to pay someone to do it. If someone reading this could help me please look at my lot at 307 North 12th West Memphis. If you want you can cut it down and keep the wood for winter. I don’t want to sell my lot I’m praying one day that I could afford something to be put back there. Renting isn’t cheap and it adds up. Thank you so much. Text the times back regarding my tree. Have a blessed one. [ Editor’s Note: Consider the word passed, although I can already imagine folks wanting to know what kind of tree it is before taking on the job. It makes a difference as far as its desirability for firewood or for cooking or building or whatever ( or so I’m told. I never took Treeology]

*** Has anyone gotten phone calls claiming to be the IRS and telling you that you owe monies to the them?

[ Editor’s Note: Just the latest round of scammers, I’m sure. From Marion Police Lt. Det. Freddy Williams: Citizens have reported calls including the IRS, the local police departments and other businesses claiming to be collecting fees that are owed. Some are even saying that a warrant has been issued and they can go to jail if they don't make payments or supply infor-mation to them. Some of these callers are very forceful when they speak to you on the phone. These calls are known to be scams so DO NOT give out any information or make any payments over the phone.

Most all legit companies including the IRS usually send something to you in the mail and do not request any payment or ask for information over the phone.

Many scammers will call the elderly and catch them off guard. Inform any family or friends which are elderly and make them aware of such calls. Go with common sense and DO NOT GET SCAMMED!]
