Football and Steak – What’s not to like?
Blue Devils, Patriots bringing back annual booster club banquets
ralphhardin@gmail.com The phrase “as American as baseball and apple pie” has been around for more than a hundred years, but it might be time to replace it with “as American as football and steak,” at least for the next couple of weeks.
Fall is in the air (even if the temperatures don’t quite reflect that yet), and that means it’s time for the return of two local traditions — Friday night football and a pair of booster club fundraisers.
The West Memphis Blue Devils get to go first this season, with the Double Devil Feast, this Friday evening from 5 to 6 p.m., at the Academies of West Mempis high school cafeteria. The West Memphis Athletic Booster Club is bringing back the popular steak dinner, sponsored by Southland Park Gaming & Racing.
For only $10, diners can enjoy a steak, baked potato, salad and a drink.
“Join us for a great meal and a great game,” as the Blue Devils take on the Forrest City Mustangs.
For tickets, contact WMSD Athletic Director Lanny Dauksch at (870) 735-1915, (901) 356-1427, or via e-mail at ldauksch@wmds.net.
Just one week later, the Marion Patriots get in on the act, with the return of the Colton’s Football Roundup. In the tradition of the old “Steak & Yell,” the Colton’s Steak Steakhousesponsored dinner is just $5, and is set for Friday, Sept.
9, at the Marion High School Cafeteria.
The Roundup begins at 5:30 p.m., with dine-in or to-go plates available. Tickets can be purchased at the Marion School District Main Office.
Then head to Patriots Stadium that night to see the Pats’ home opener against the Jackson Missouri High School Fighting Indians at 7 p.m. Game tickets are sold separately.
