Redbirds Rally to Trump the Aces, 6- 4

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Alex Mejia ripped a basesclearing triple in the eighth, and Arturo Reyes picked up his ninth win of the season in a 6-4 Memphis Redbirds (60-65) win over the Reno Aces (Triple-A Diamondbacks) Thursday night at AutoZone Park.

Reyes worked 8.0 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, in the first inning, and he did not issue a walk and struck out eight. In five starts since returning from missing 31 games due to injury, Reyes is 4-0 with a 1.79 ERA (6er/30.1ip). Reyes’ nine wins this season are tied for the most in the St.

Louis Cardinals organization.

Memphis scored runs in the bottom of the first and bottom of the sixth to tie the game at two, which was made possible by Reyes retiring the final seven Aces (67-59) he faced and 14 of the last 16.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jose Martinez stroked his third single of the night with one out, and Nick Martini followed with a two-out single of his own. Patrick Wisdom walked to load the bases, and Mejia stepped up and roped a three-bagger to left-center field to give the Redbirds a 5-2 lead.

Pinch-hitter Breyvic Valera scored Mejia with a single, and Memphis took a 6-2 lead into the ninth.

Miguel Socolovich came on in the top of the ninth and fell victim to a pair of run-scoring singles, but he wrapped the Redbird win with no further damage.

With the win, Memphis ended a three-game losing streak at AutoZone Park and avoided a season-long four-loss skid.

Memphis’ series with Reno, and its eight-game homestand, conclude tomorrow night at 7:05 (CT).
