I am wondering when the cash strapped town of Earle is going to wake up! Mayor Carolyn Jones is obviously indifferent and self absorbed especially when it comes to the well being of the citizens of Earle. I venture to say that she is not alone. Stevie Wonder himself can see that every council meeting is filled with council members who want to one up the mayor and her lashing out at them. The monthly shenanigans between her and Kenneth Cross during meetings are ridiculous and embarrassing to our town. Basically nothing gets done. All of this takes place while the former mayor/pastor grins like a chess chat, he gets a kick out of the chaos. I’d also like to know why a town the size of Earle has 8 council members that each get paid around 800 a month. THAT’S WHERE THE CUTTING NEEDS TO START, not spending time arguing over the cost of police uniforms and tires. It’s ridiculous. They either need to work together for the common good of Earle or step down and allow some people that really CARE about the well being of the town and not just a check. [ Editor’s Note: You raise some valid points, but why you gotta drag Stevie Wonder into this?]
*** Another 2 hr power outage in Marion yesterday. This makes about 4 in the past 6 weeks. West Memphis has also had their share, not from any problem by West Memphis Utilities but from their Entergy feed. There has also been outages in Earle, Proctor, Horseshoe Lake and the Turrell area. Maybe Entergy is more interested in their bottom line than investing in infrastructure. That is what I have heard from several of their employees. [ Editor’s Note: No doubt, there have been a lot of power outages recently. I get a text from Entergy every time the power is out at my house, so I checked my phone, and going back to mid-April, which is when I got my phone, there were six outages, at least in my neighborhood. Some were brief, but two, including on Memorial Day, lasted several hours. I can’t speak to any underlying reason for the increase in outages, but clearly we shouldn’t expect an outage a month, right?]
*** The 1st day of School. WOW. We were pressed, curled and blushed. Watch out Marion Jr High… The O’Neal Twins have arrived in all their Slender. Michael had a volleyball bag and backpack, and a sax for band. She was set to go. Kellcy and I had the discussion about to carry or not to carry tissues to school. You guessed. We did not carry tissue to school but did make it with copy paper for keyboarding and color paper for Science. There teeth were brushed and lunches packed. We felt together. We hoped we did not miss the Parade of Seniors. That’s one of the back to school traditions they love. I want to thank the Marion Police Department. In the first day of school, BLUE is my favorite color. And boy was there Blue. There were lights and policeman everywhere directing traffic. Thanks fellows!!! I hope we all enjoy a great year and the projects yet to come. God Bless our Teachers and our School. We love our school. See you at the football game. I looking forward to great halftime show. GO PATS! Lisa O’Neal. [ Editor’s Note: This was the first year in a long time that I did not have to traverse the great sea of humanity on the first day of school, so I’m glad to hear the traffic wasn’t a nightmare, which it certainly can be. A few years ago, it was raining on the first day, and although I was able to get my kid there on time, I stayed to take pictures and there was still a long line at 8: 30. But to echo your sentiments, I do hope all of the students and teachers have a great school year. By my estimates, we have about 8,000 students in our county schools this year. That’s the future of our community, so we need to support them however we can]
