Marion baseball comes back to take tourney title

Marion School District It took a late-inning rally in the championship game, but the Marion Patriots baseball team walked away with the title in the “Battlin’ in the Break” Tournament last weekend in Magnolia.

Marion defeated Genoa Central, Jacksonville, and host team Magnolia to reach the championship game, where the Patriots came back from an 8-1 deficit to beat El Dorado 12-8, capped by a big ninerun 6th inning.

In the final game, Peyton Lawhon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Hayden Hodge went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

The Patriots will be back in action Tuesday afternoon back in the friendly confines of John Robbins Field, with a double-header against the Nettleton Raiders, at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. And on Friday, the Patriots take on the Wynne Yellowjackets at home.

Game time is 3:30 p.m. in Marion.
