Four Greyhounds named to NJCAA All-Region Team

In advance of their trip to play in the District XIII Championship game, four Greyhounds have been named to the NJCAA All-Region 2 Basketball Team for the 2018-19 season.
Jalen Lynn, a 6’0” freshman guard from Collierville, Tennessee, was named to the All-Region First Team. Lynn is averaging 17.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting over 45 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from the 3-point line and 83.1 percent from the free throw line, good for 35th in the country. Also, his 2.8 three-pointers per game currently ranks him 36th in the nation.
The Greyhounds also landed three players on the All-Region Second Team: Christian White, Zach Byrd, and Shaheed Halk.
White, a 6’6” freshman forward from Jacksonville, Arkansas, is averaging 10.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game while shooting 59.8 percent from the field which is currently ranked 37th in the nation.
Byrd, a 6’2” freshman guard/forward from West Memphis, Arkansas, is averaging 8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the 3-point line. He is also currently 34th in the nation in offensive rebounds, averaging 3.2 per game.
Halk, a 6’3” sophomore point guard from Benton, Arkansas, is averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, a school record 6.2 assists per game, and a team-high 1.8 steals per game. He is currently 8th in the nation in assists. He is shooting 42.0 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from the three-point line and 82.1 percent from the free throw line.
In addition, Head Coach Chris Parker was named the Region 2 Coach of the Year in the inaugural year of the award for Division II. Parker is in his ninth year at ASU Mid-South and his eighth year as Head Men’s Basketball Coach after helping start the athletics program in 2010.
ASU Mid-South (22-8) played at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, Missouri, this past Saturday, in the District XIII Championship Game, falling 73-67.
