Preventing Teen Pregnancy

Intervention initiative planned for Feb. 16

news@theeveningtimes.com

Teen pregnancy is a problem, across the U.S. and here in the Natural State.

In compiling data for the 2017 Bureau of Statistics, Arkansas was ranked number 1 out of 51 (all 50 states plus the District of Columbia) in the ranking of teen births rates among females aged 15-19 (with 1 representing the highest rate and 51 representing the lowest rate).

Teen pregnancy, which in a majority of cases is an unplanned pregnancy with an unwed mother, not only impacts the individual and the family but amounts to a drain on resources in the community and state, and often results in babies with developmental issues or a child being born into a poor socioeconomical environment.

With that in mind, the Crittenden County Christian Coalition is hosting a Teen Pregnancy Community Intervention Initiative.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Second St. John Baptist Church, 305 Ingram Blvd., West Memphis.

All age groups are welcomed and the seminar includes a free breakfast.

Sponsored by the Crittenden County Christian Coalition, Dr. CW Campbell, President. For more information, call: (870) 206-5191.
