Mrs. Sojouring Maebell Smith “Sister”

Mrs. Sojouring Maebell Smith “Sister” was born Sept. 10, 1947, to the late Albert and Essie B. Curtis in West Memphis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlene Curtis; two brothers, John L. Curtis and Jessie Curtis all of West Memphis.

She was baptized at an early age at First Missionary Baptist Church, West Memphis, under the leadership of the Rev. S. J. Parker. She loved to sing and was a member of the First Baptist Church Choir.

Sojouring graduated from Wonder High School in 1965 where she was a majorette. In 1966 she enlisted in the United States Air Force and was Honorably discharged following her service to her country.

She received a Bachelor’s

Degree in Business Administration

from the University of Southern California.

She was united in holy matrimony to Frank Smith.

“Sister” as she was affectionately called retired from the West Memphis Fire Department as an EMS Dispatcher.

She had a knack for decorating and interior design.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Elizabeth Southern-Jones (Robert) of New York City, New York; three sons, Phalen Curtis of Queens, New York, Justus Smith and Joseph Raemon Smith both of West Memphis; two brothers, Albert Curtis, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois and Walter Curtis of Memphis, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Sydney Jones and Jaden Williams, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
