Barrett accused of shooting death of WM man

Bail for accused murderer Carlton Barrett has been set at $500,000. The West Memphis man is in custody charged with first degree murder and felony in pos- session of a handgun for the shooting death of a Demetrius Hoard on Feb.

13 at the Riverside Apartment Complex.

“When officers arrived on the scene they located Hoard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” said West Memphis Police Department Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Division Commander Capt.

Joe Baker. “Officers secured the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Hoard was transported in extremely critical condition to Regional One in Memphis where he later died from his injuries.”

During the investigation detectives were able to develop Barrett, 26, as the suspect in the homicide.

Barrett turned himself in two days later at the West Memphis Police Department headquarters.
