AWM girls down Forrest City 58- 30

WM School District FORREST CITY— Forrest City turned out to be the perfect remedy for the West Memphis Lady Devils here last Friday night.

Sophomore Kenya Freeman made the most of her first start of the year and calmly sank a gamehigh 17 points to lead the AWM girls to an easy 5830 win.

Freeman started in place of the injured Ty Bullins and she dominated the paint area.

'Kenya just really came through for us tonight,' said Lady Devil lead coach Shelia Burns whose team snapped a three-game losing streak in improving to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the 5A/6A-East Conference.

'We're going to need more of that.'

The West Memphis girls broke open a tight game with a powerful burst midway through the third quarter.

The Fillies scored the final six points of the second quarter to head into the locker room with momentum, down only 2420.

But as she did all night, Freeman ignited the flame for West Memphis to open the second half.

She stuck back a missed shot for a basket less than 30 seconds into the third quarter and it sparked a 15-5 run by the Lady Devils through the end of the stanza.

And it was more of the same in the fourth quarter as Keara Williams, who scored 9 points, hit a pair of bank shots and senior point guard Paris Perkins hit a pair of field goals to make it 50-28.

'We started in a man-toman defense and I thought our girls did a good job in that,' Burns added. 'Then we decided to go to a 3-2 zone which is our trademark defense and it looked really good, limiting Forrest City's dribble-drive offense.'

Senior Taylor Johnson pumped in 7 points for the Lady Devils while Perkins had 6 and Tatyana Burks, who started in place of Perkins at the point, hit 5.

The Lady Devils will host Blytheville on Tuesday night at Lehr Arena.
