RiverKings lose in overtime

Evansville escapes with 6- 5 win

www.mississippiriverkings. com The Mississippi RiverKings (12-5-1) were handed their first overtime loss of the season Tuesday as the Evansville Thunderbolts (7-10-3) won 6-5 in the extra frame at the Lander Center.

The Thunderbolts struck first on a goal from Phil Bronner off a face-off that deflected in to beat Brad Barone. The RiverKings answer came from Tyler Barr who took the puck behind the net and wrapped around for the goal. Barr’s line would score again on a tape to tape pass from Mike Grace to Anthony Conti to Dillan Fox to beat Michael Doan.

Anthony Conti got things started in the second scoring early on a pass from Tyler Barr to get his first professional goal. The lead did not stay for the RiverKings as Ryan Patsch’s power play goal followed by Josh Harris’s shorthanded goal tied the game back up at three.

Cullen Bradshaw grabbed the lead back for the RiverKings scoring on a power play on a shot-pass from Joe Sova at the point. In the third, Mike Moran found the back of the net on a one time pass from Cullen Bradshaw to beat Mike Doan and give the RiverKings a 5-3 lead. The Thunderbolts showed their resilience, scoring twice from Brad Bourke and Josh Elmes, to tie the game and force overtime.

The back-and-forth overtime eventually yielded a goal for the Thunderbolts after Cullen Bradshaw went to the ice creating a three on two that Justin MacDonald scored on to end the game.

Brad Barone (5-3-1) gets the overtime loss for the RiverKings stopping 23 shots in the game and Michael Doan (2-1-0) receives the win stopping 30 for the Thunderbolts.

The RiverKings will look for the bounce back win Friday with two games over the weekend with the Knoxville Ice Bears in Knoxville and with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
