Text The Times.
Text The Times.
There was a wreck on the old bridge today and all I could think was how stupid it would be to close down one of the bridges for a year or more… you know it will be more… did they get smart and decide not to do it? [ Editor’s Note: I haven’t heard anything about the proposed closure of the Old Bridge for the I- 55 roundabout in months. In August, we reported that the plans were currently “ on hold” and that TDOT was exploring “ other options,” so unless they suddenly spring something on us, it looks like that ill- conceived plan is off…
for now]
*** On Friday we missed our 14th paper in about 6 weeks. The 4th Friday paper. I have called believe me, but it seems to be a waste of time and breath. I like taking the Evening Times. I like knowing what is going on in town. I like seeing the pictures of people I know. I like knowing who has passed away since I have lived my whole life in this county. My brothers delivered the Times and my husband under Mr. Haulsey (not sure of spelling). My sons delivered too. So that being said I do NOT want to stop my subscription. But I don’t know if I have any choice. It frustrates me when I don’t get one. I MAY try the online version but if I don’t like that I just don’t know. After 40 years of taking the paper it might be the end. [ Editor’s Note: As always, very sorry that you are having trouble with your delivery. You did not leave your address, but I did save the number this text came from ( which I never do), and I gave it to our Circulation Department, so hopefully someone from that department will get in touch with you or at least use the number to find your address in our subscription database. We value each and every one of our readers, so I hope that we can figure out the issue and correct it]
*** Dear Editor..Reading Wednesday’s Text The Times… concerning the snacks… I read it and tears came to my eyes… what a wonderful act of kindness in our little old town… what a wonderful story… blessings to that mother I hope her success… Freeman [ Editor’s Note: My hope is that there are similar such random acts of kindness going on all over town that simply don’t make their way into the newspaper. But if you or anyone out there ever is on the receiving end of such a gesture, I’d love to hear about it. This time of year, especially, it’s good to hear what our neighbors in the community are capable of when their hearts lead them in that direction]
*** On the state of the Jackson community center… Bull doze the crappy facility! [ Editor’s Note: Admittedly, it’s in bad shape, and honestly, it seems like apathy more than anything that led to the center’s dilapidated state, like no one wanted to do anything to keep it maintained until it was too late and the place was a mess. Having said that, it appears that key control was a major issue and the center can still fill an important role in that part of the community, and as such, is worth saving. It will then be a matter of city officials being more vigilant in knowing who is using the center and making them responsible for any damage that occurs]
