AWM sophomore makes deep run
WM School District West Memphis sophomore Carlson Bennage's run for the Class 6A state championship in boys singles came up just short Tuesday in Jonesboro.
The promising Blue Devil standout defeated Mason Mitchell of Jonesboro 6-3 and 6-4 in the quarterfinals to advance to the Final Four.
Bennage lost in the semis to Andrew Anderson of Greenwood 6-1, 5-7 and 64.
Anderson then went on to win the boys singles championship, defeating teammate David Woodring 6-1 and 6-1.
In the consolation match, Orest lLos of Siloam Springs edged out Bennage for third place, 2-6, 6-0 and 6-4.
West Memphis also placed a doubles team in the state quarterfinals as Kaiden Holt and Wallace Crain lost to Wade Bradford and Tyler Dawson of Texarkana, 4-7, 6-0 and 6-3.
