Honor Society on the job
ralphhardin@gmail.com You’ve got to make the grade to be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, but being in the NJHS at Marion Junior High School also means you are going to do more than go to club meetings.
The MJHS NJHS keeps busy with numerous projects throughout the school year. Faculty sponsors Amy Shumate and Jenny West make sure NJHS members participate in the projects including fundraisers, recycling, donations for holiday baskets, and volunteering to help with Avondale Elementary School’s annual field day among other activities. One of their most successful efforts has been their Box Tops for Education drive.
The box tops, which can be found on a variety of products (a complete list can be found online at www.boxtops4education.c om), can then be sent in to receive funds for educations for the school of your choice. The NJHS has collected more than 12,000 box tops since launching the initiative.
NJHS membership in the NJHS are: All A’s and B’s as semester grades, satisfactory conduct grades, enrollment in at least two honors or pre-advanced placement courses, preregister for at least two 9th grade honors or pre-AP courses, demonstration of strong character in the classroom, and perform over 1,500 hours of community service each year.
