It was almost the perfect party for seven West Memphis seniors on Senior Night Thursday at Lehr Arena.
The Lady Devils fought until they could fight no more before narrowly losing to Wynne in five sets. The Lady Devils won the first set 27-25 before falling 2522 and 25-22.
The West Memphians walloped Wynne 25-15 in set four to set up the 15-point finale, which the visitors won 15-12.
'That was definitely a heart-breaker for us,' said Lady Devil head coach Erin Neeley. 'Both teams battled back and forth and unfortunately for us (Wynne) got us on that last (set).'
Although there is still one home game left on the schedule, the Lady Devils honored seven seniors before the game including the injured Alexis Stackhouse, Kassidy Pardy, Eva Pouncey, Rileigh Smith, K.K. Kelley, Adara Russell and Brittney Branstetter.
'Our seniors have done a good job for us in our program for three years and I'm really going to miss them,' said Neeley. 'I thought all our girls tonight played great on defense. We just would not let the ball hit the floor.'
Statistically, the Lady Devils were led by Shelby Nix's 10 kills while Pardy and Smith each had 6.
Sophomore Cameran Aaron led the team with 2 aces while fellow rookie Anna Nelson topped the team in digs with 11 while Smith chipped in 10.
Pouncey contributed 10 assists while Aaron added 4. Kelley also played outstanding for West Memphis with 1 kill and Ruissell provided 2 blocks.
